About Stensland Inspections
In 1980, Carroll Stensland, a highly regarded local home builder with deep ties to the community, was approached by the West Lakeland Township Chairman to serve as the Designated Building Official. What Carroll initially thought would be a temporary role lasting only a few months grew into a cornerstone of service in the St. Croix River Valley.

The company’s legacy of excellence expanded in 2000 when Carroll’s son, Duane Stensland, assumed leadership. Under Duane’s guidance, Stensland Inspections broadened its reach to provide trusted building department services to multiple municipalities across the region. In 2023, the business transitioned to its third generation of leadership with Isaac Stensland and his wife, Ashley, at the helm
Isaac brings extensive experience and a deep understanding of construction and building inspections to his role. Over the course of more than 20 years, he has honed his expertise by building custom homes in the Stillwater area, working as a draftsman, and earning certification as a Building Official through the State of Minnesota in 2005. His professional background includes inspection roles in Stillwater, Apple Valley, and St. Paul, giving him a well-rounded perspective on the unique needs of communities in the region.

At Stensland Inspections, we remain deeply committed to providing prompt, dependable, and professional building department services. Our mission goes beyond inspections; we strive to build lasting relationships with community leaders, property owners, and contractors. By safeguarding the health, safety, and welfare of the communities we serve, we aim to uphold and enhance the quality of life in the St. Croix River Valley.

Today, Stensland Inspections stands as a testament to three generations of dedication and expertise, continuing to serve the St. Croix River Valley as the Designated Building Official for six municipalities.

“I have had the fortune of working with Isaac for several years in the regulatory sector of construction in Saint Paul. He has a strong understanding of customer service and his skills in team-building, listening, and patience in assessing an issue or a project are exceptional in this industry. Isaac’s high-level of knowledge in all facets of construction helps him to collaboratively lead a broad group of trade contractors, developers, and government officials through all the various regulations to ultimately complete the reviews and inspections of projects. Whether the project was residential, commercial, industrial, or a licensed facility, he understands the safety factors on the construction job and a project’s code analysis path for compliance. He is the type of mentor this industry needs to build better relationships with the private and public sectors.”
